I woke this morning outraged. I quickly steadied myself in gratitude, needing an anchor of goodness.
I am deeply grateful for dignity and moral courage of Congressman Adam Schiff and the House Managers.
I am grateful for 2018 voters. Wining the House allowed us to impeach Trump. And The House will subpoena John Bolton. Without this win, truth would die in darkness. Every vote matters.
I am grateful for Speaker Pelosi who Captain Von Trapped the State of the Union address. “It was the courteous thing to do”.
I am grateful for Senator Mitt Romney who was the lone Republican to uphold his oath of office. Well worth watching.
I am grateful for the Seattleites who stand in the pouring rain against Neo-Nazis, for clean energy, our Native brothers and sisters, against greed and who never give up believing that together we can.
I am grateful for friends who are doing everything in their power to help ease the anxiety in their children and who are fostering children left behind. These are anxious times and every deserves love.
I am grateful to my wife who fiercely loves and for our pups who are pure joy.
I am grateful for your determination to find another way.
When Brexit was voted in on June 23 2016, Van Jones predicted Trump’s victory. He did the same last night. Predict Trump’s victory. So did James Carville. While it’s impossible to imagine, it’s viable. And it’s not because we don’t have a candidate that can beat Trump, it’s because we haven’t gotten our shit together.
We must commit to working together. To Vote Blue No Matter Who. I would never say this in normal times, it doesn’t matter who our candidate is. Sure, I have a preference or two. We all do. Work for the candidate you believe in and then work harder than ever for whoever the nominee is.
We just witnessed the failure of our legislative system. The checks and balances of Democracy have collapsed. Today we begin to rebuild them.
We rebuild for the preservation of our earth, clean water and air. For kids in cages ripped from their families. For immigrants seeking a better life. For Healthcare for all Americans. For public schools. For Sensible gun laws, equality, prison reform. We will rebuild with kindness, moral courage and integrity.
Our job as American citizens is quite is simple really –
If you can, donate to the following candidates -
Jaime Harrison v Lindsey Graham, South Carolina
John Hickenlooper v Cory Gardner, Colorado
Sara Gideon v Susan Collins, Maine
Cal Cunningham v Thom Tillis, North Carolina
Astronaut Mark Kelly v Martha McSallyArizona
Amy McGrath v Mitch McConnell, Kentucky
Theresa Greenfield v Joni Ernst, Iowa
Reverend Raphael Warnock v Kelly Loeffler or Doug Collins, Georgia
Senator Doug Jones to keep his seat in Alabama. He voted to convict the President and is facing a tough reelection.
If you can, canvas, text or make calls to Get Out The Vote.
If you can, you talk to your family and friends about supporting candidates who want to preserve our Democracy, our earth, our jobs, our values.
I often wonder if we are standing on the edge of Nazi Germany. Only history will tell. Are we doing everything we can to stop Hitler’s rise to power, or do we trust that everything will work itself out? I know I sound alarmist. This may turn some of you away. That is not my intention.
I believe good will prevail. I see so much goodness and beauty everywhere. I know we can have have the world we dream of. And that dream begins by working for justice, peace and love.
With deep gratitude and love –
