Friends, hello. Thank you for traveling the Easy Activism journey over the last four years.
Together we limited the amount of damage done. Things would have been worse if we didn’t protest, boycott, make phone calls, and most importantly, VOTE!
As we close the Trump chapter (I hear the jail cell doors clanging shut), our activism and dedication to social and environment justice becomes proactive rather than reactive. With our continued engagement, we can reshape and redefine our Democracy for all Americans.
Watching the results for Georgia come in, I couldn’t believe we endured the limbo of not knowing if Biden won for five painful long days. The surge of optimistic joy again with the win of Senators-Elect Warnock and Ossoff reminded me that good things happen with dedicated determination. Horrifically, that feeling was short-lived due to the seditious rioters who stormed and work at the Capitol. The violence, egregious behavior, and distorted reality was the frightening thing I’ve ever witnessed. I am hopeful and worried about the upcoming inauguration. Police, military, and fire people participated in this riot. The Capitol Police treated seditionists with kid gloves. People of color would say they have never been safe with the police or the government. It is white privilege to be shocked by any of this.
White supremacy is rampant in America. White supremacists are so emboldened that they post on social media. I can only hope that with continued corporate defunding, arrests, legislators being unseated, social shaming, and an impeachment conviction, we will disempower white supremacy instead of being terrorized by it.
I believe in us. It is because of us that the backbone of our Democracy will grow in inclusivity and caring. And I have had many dark and listless days. To bear witness to extreme violent disillusionment is a reminder that our work continues. For four years we’ve been steadfast with a fierce spirit to elevate, amplify, and advocate for people, mother earth, and for ourselves. While the Biden administration may reflect some or many of our values, it remains up to us to ensure our leaders are accountable. There are too many parts of this country that knowing elected conspiracy therapists and Neo Nazis. It’s up to us to educate and get out the vote with determination and love in our hearts so we can elect progressive leaders who are working for the betterment of all of us.
After writing over 100 Easy Activisms, I have decided to retire the website and newsletter. Writing this newsletter has been an honor. I have loved connecting with you, being activists together, and knowing that we are stronger and ready to conquer injustice no matter what comes our way. I am brewing something that I will launch on Substack (a newsletter platform). I hope you don’t mind as I’ve moved this mailing list to the new platform. If my musings and actions about recreating the world we want to live it doesn’t move you, it will be easy to unsubscribe. Mostly, I hope we stay connected and the work of creating a more just and peaceful world.
I hope you and your loved ones are well. Vaccines are coming. I have friends and family who have been vaccinated or will be this month. And just think, this is the last weekend Trump will golf while President. By this time next week, we will be several days into the Biden / Harris administration. I cannot wait!
With deepest love and gratitude to you -
